Baptism holds great significance in reference to the Great Commission outlined in Matthew 28:19-20. In this passage, Jesus instructs His disciples to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." 

Baptism is the sharing (a participation) in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is more than just a symbol and shows a person's decision to follow Christ and break free from their old life of sin. This public confession is an essential aspect of the discipleship process and fulfills the call to make disciples.

Baptism marks the moment when an individual becomes a part of the body of Christ. Through baptism, they join the worldwide community of Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus, fulfilling the Great Commission's call to make disciples of all nations.

Baptism is an act of obedience to Christ's command. When Jesus instructed His disciples to baptize new believers, He intended for this act to be a regular practice within the Christian faith. By following this command, disciples demonstrate their commitment to living according to Christ's teachings, aligning with the Great Commission's goal of teaching obedience to His commands.

Just as Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Christians participate in baptism to identify with the redemptive work of Christ and His example. This identification reinforces the message of salvation and discipleship found in the Great Commission.

Baptism is an integral part of fulfilling the Great Commission's directive to "make disciples of all nations." It marks the initial step in the process of discipleship. Through baptism, individuals are not only brought into the Christian fold but are also encouraged to grow in their faith, following Christ's teachings and leading others to do the same.
